Peterborough Retirement Cottage
Downsizing from an estate in Darien, CT to a quaint retirement cottage in Peterborough was a journey of beauty and history. My client, brave and active, was ready to move closer to family and a simpler life.Having the opportunity to see her beautiful pieces on site in Darien was extremely helpful in getting to know her and appreciating her lifestyle and aesthetic. Of course it was an emotional process and one of extreme editing but the objective was to recreate the same generational charm and elegance in miniature.
Selecting art, meaningful artifacts and furniture, as well as properly scaled pieces was arduous but we combined this work with periodic trips to shop for beautiful fabrics and wallcoverings. At this stage of life it is all about reinventing the special pieces that you own and envisioning them in another setting. Construction involved small built ins and cabinetry with glass shelving and doors... seeing collections of glass and dishes housed and organized by color and style.
When all was said and done she and her family agreed that she now lived in a new jewel box surrounded in comforting, reimagined history.
